Lee Archer: "This book is as much about aircraft weapons as it is about Panzers. Almost every photograph is from an album held at the Russian Central Military Archives (TsAMO) in Podolsk, and was produced by the 17th Air Army during their evaluation of the effects of aircraft weapons on German (and Hungarian) armoured vehicles in the battles around Lake Balaton. No test reports on training grounds and firing ranges here - everything is based on genuine after-action and field reports. We have included many of the accompanying Sketches too, adding an interesting dimension. This book would not have been possible without Kamen Nevenkin, my co-author, whose knowledge of the subject is seemingly endless. Thank you Kamen. Felipe Rodna has brought Panzers, weapons and tactics to life with jaw dropping artwork. A tip of the hat to you Felipe. Kamen and I accept that the quality of the images is not as good as we might like. To our knowledge, barely a handful have been published before and we thought it only right to unearth them from the depths of the archive so that they may play their part in documenting the defeat of the Panzerwaffe - despite their poor quality. These are the only copies known to exist and are as good as we are going to get. As I said in the introduction for Panzerwrecks 19; "a less than perfect photo is better than no photo." And so we give you Panzerwrecks 20: Ostfront 3, quite literally a tour of the Balaton battlefields - warts and all."
